Make Your Mark in Downtown Vicksburg: One Brick at a Time

The Vicksburg Main Street Program has decided to hit the bricks and take action by conducting a fundraising effort that will not only help downtown but beautify it as well. Due to Vicksburg Main Street Taxing District funds being lower than anticipated over the past year, the Vicksburg Main Street Program is hosting a fundraiser called "Make Your Mark in Downtown: One Brick at a Time."

Parade Honoring Malcolm Butler

VICKSBURG, MISS.) February 17, 2015: The City of Vicksburg will host a parade and ceremony for Vicksburg native and Super Bowl hero Malcolm Butler on Saturday, February 21 beginning at 2:30 p.m.

 

Malcolm Butler, a cornerback for the New England Patriots, made the winning play at this year's Super Bowl on Sunday, February 1 when he intercepted the ball in the last 20 seconds of the game to seal the victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Butler is a 2009 graduate of Vicksburg High School. He earned a scholarship to Hinds Community College and later played at the University of West Alabama. On May 19, 2014, he signed with the New England Patriots after going undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft and made his first start on December 14, where he made two tackles.

The Vicksburg Main Street Program, Crooked Letter Cycling, Revolution Mobile Bike Service and Bike Walk Mississippi are proud to announce that a Cycling Basics Seminar will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2015.

Mardi Gras Parade 2015

Downtown Vicksburg's 14th Annual Mardi Gras Parade will be held Saturday, February 7, 2015, at 4:00 p.m. in Downtown Vicksburg. All area Clubs, Churches, Organizations, Schools  and Businesses are invited to take place in this community parade. The deadline to submit an application is no later than 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 28, 2015. The fee is $25 for non-profit and civic groups and $50 for businesses. After Wednesday, January 28th the fee is $50 for non-profit and civic groups and $100 for businesses.

Riverfest 2015

The RiverFest Music and Arts Festival is April 17th and 18th! The 28th Annual RiverFest features live music as well as free Saturday daytime activities.

 

The concerts are from 6:00 pm to 12:00 midnight and admission is $10. Saturday's daytime activities start at 8:00 am at the RiverFest Arts & Crafts Show around City Hall.

 

Other activities include live music, street performers, children's activities, food booths, and fabulous sidewalk sales with participating downtown merchants.

Kansas City Southern - Holiday Express

The Kansas City Holiday Express Train will be in Downtown Vicksburg on Friday, December 5, 2014, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. The train will be open for tours and visits with Santa. This event is free and open to the public.

 

Led by KCS' Southern Belle business train, the Holiday Express train includes a smiling tank car "Rudy"; a flatcar carrying Santa's sleigh, reindeer and a miniature village; a ginger bread boxcar; the elves' workshop; the reindeer stable; and a little red caboose.

Christmas Parade of Lights

The Vicksburg Main Street Program announces its 2014 Downtown Vicksburg Christmas Parade of Lights. The parade will take place on Saturday, December 6, 2014 beginning at 5:00 p.m. This year's parade theme is "Christmas on the River". All area Clubs, Churches, Organizations, Schools, Dance/Drill Teams, and Businesses are encouraged to take place in this community parade.

 

The deadline to submit an application is Monday, November 24th. Parade rules, regulations, and applications can be downloaded from the Main Street web site:

5th Annual Bricks and Spokes Bike Ride

The Vicksburg Main Street Program is proud to announce their 5th Annual Bricks and Spokes Bike Ride to be held on Saturday, October 4, 2014, in beautiful downtown Vicksburg. Participants will get to experience our beautiful bluffs and rolling landscapes while participating in the event.

 

Whether you are just starting out or an expert rider, Bricks and Spokes is a great ride for you! The 5th Annual Bricks and Spokes will feature a 10, 30, 50 and 62 mile ride. All rides will begin in beautiful Downtown Vicksburg and will travel south to the Old Mississippi River Bridge.

Free WiFi for Downtown Visitors

The City of Vicksburg and Main Street have partnered to provide a free WiFi zone in the downtown district. Visitors to downtown enjoy free internet access along Washington Street from Veto Street north to Grove Street.

 

The system is a sophisticated mesh network that is made up of more than a dozen access points spaced at optimal distances along the Washington Street corridor. The system is self-healing network that automatically reroutes traffic in the event a unit goes down. 

 

There is no access password but users will need to agree to the terms and conditions on the network splash page.

2014 Miss Mississippi Parade

VICKSBURG, MS - The Vicksburg Main Street is proud to announce that we will host the Miss Mississippi Parade on Monday, July 7th, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in downtown Vicksburg. Come support your favorite contestant. The parade begins at Washington and Veto Street and will travel North on Washington Street to Mulberry Street.
