Normally, rooftop dining is associated with big cities and skyscrapers. Being that neither are common in Mississippi, many assume that the state doesn’t offer rooftop dining, but that’s simply not the case. Although rare, there are several restaurants in the state that feature this dining option; here are six of them.
H.H. Biedenharn once walked out the front door of his 1870s home and down the hill to his candy company on Washington Street, where they first bottled Coca-Cola in the 1890s, each day.
Today, the owner of his house, and two other buildings on the property, said he has found several Coca-Cola bottles buried under years of dirt and grime while renovating the property — bottles straight from the bottler’s family.

After a destructive fire and years of neglect, one downtown building is getting a much needed face lift.
The former El Rio Mexican Restaurant, 1415 Washington St., is already in the beginning the stages of being renovated just weeks after Daryl Hollingsworth, who co-owns the Wine House, Ware House Apartments, The Mad Baker and other properties downtown, purchased the property.
The mantra for the U.S. Small Business Administration’s weeklong Delta Region Main Street Road Tour rang true throughout the visit of Maria Contreras-Sweet, administrator of the SBA, to Vicksburg Thursday.
From inquiring about occupancies rates to whether local merchants have their own websites, Contreras-Sweet toured downtown Vicksburg and several local stores, including Michel’s Record Shop, 10 South Rooftop Bar and Grill, Frederick’s and Marcus Furniture.
Dinner preceded Monday’s fireworks extravaganza for many of the thousands that gathered downtown to celebrate the Fourth of July, and local restaurants benefited from the increased foot traffic.
Vicksburg will turn a little ritzier toward the end of this month, complete with a live 12-piece swing band and a chance to dress to the nines.
The third annual Ritz on the River will be held July 21 at the Vicksburg Convention Center, featuring Atlanta’s Rupert’s Orchestra and a multi-course meal.
